The CRPNA is pleased to provide the Online Provincial Council Nomination & Voting process.  The online election process ensures ALL regulated RPNs in Alberta have the opportunity to put nominations for Provincial Council forward and vote on those nominations to elect CRPNA Council Members from anywhere in Alberta.

There are 3 Provincial Councilor Positions for elections, each for a three-year term.

Q.  How does the Online Election process work?

Each year a call for nominations goes out to all RPNs in Alberta.  All interested RPNs are to submit a completed nomination form and member overview which is used to develop their member profile which will be posted and sent to all regulated RPNs to vote on during the election process in September.
 
To be eligible for nomination the RPN must:
       a) Be on the Practicing or Temporary Practicing Register; 
       b) Be in good standing on the date of the election; 
       c) Have a minimum of one (1) year practice in Canada; and
       d) Submit a nomination form and Member overview     *CRPNA confirmation of receipt required

Q.  What are the expectations and responsibilities of a Provincial Council Member?

A Provincial Council Member as part of the CRPNA must carry out the activities and govern its regulated members in a manner that protects and serves the public interest, and must provide direction to and regulate the practice of the profession.

A Provincial Council Member must carry out the activities of the college and perform other duties and functions by the exercise of the powers conferred by the Health Professions Act.

A Provincial Council Member must act in the public interest adhering at all times to the highest ethical standards without regard to personal interests, in the crucial role of self-governance in regulating the practice of Alberta RPNs. 

Q.  What is the commitment of a Provincial Council Member?

  • A Provincial Councilor is a three-year term
  • Council meetings are held four to five times per year on a Saturday at the CRPNA Head office
  • Participate in discussions, while respecting other opinions and committing to Council decisions
  • Contribute to the development of priorities for the College through strategic planning activities in a manner that protects and serves the public interest
  • Act on behalf of, and be accountable to the public in the regulation of RPNs
